CROCODILE ROCK

I’m sad today as I found out one of my heroes, Steve Irwin, died. He was stung in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary on one of Australia's reefs. At least he died doing what he believed in and loved. Cliche yes, but true.

He’s known by most people as the "Crocodile Hunter", and as the guy who popularized the word "crikey”; yet he was more than just that. He always stressed the importance of preserving our wildlife; that's really what he was about. I’ve always followed his shows since they first appeared on the local discovery network. I still catch reruns every so often.

I will miss Steve Irwin. Sure I never met him, but I’ve always wanted to. I feel bad for his family, whom I’ve gotten to know through the different TV shows. I just hope he and his message of wildlife conservation isn’t forgotten. That’s the best tribute I can give to him.
